Speaking of Summer Fun

Here is a quick shot of my nephew on the water slide.
Think he is having any fun?

Happy first day of summer everyone!

It was a splendid summer morning and it seems as if nothing could go wrong…
(John Cheever)

I miss that feeling, a feeling I can only imagine as a distant memory from my youth or something from a Fitzgerald novel.

Here is a photo I dug up of my brother running over a sand dune on the Canadian side of lake Huron during the camping trips of my childhood.I took this photo , lets just say, at a very young age when summer was still magical. *sigh*

The other part of Sunday.

Sunday lived up to its name today as temps soared and raced to highs you would expect in June not April.
My bother and sister-in-law had a chance to spend some time with some friends so I looked after my Niece and Nephew for a few hours.
After I pried Gabriel away from the Wii and the iPad we all walked down the the park with Tanner for some fun in the sun so to speak.
I spent most of the time wrangling the heard but did manage to snap these quick shots of my always stylish niece Mina enjoying the swing.
With the Girl out of town visiting friends it was a pleasant albeit almost to hot diversion to spend some time with the Kids.

Its another beautiful day in Ann Arbor.

Despite the crazy going on in my head.
At least it looks good outside.

Sunday rolled in and rolled out again just as fast...

Sunday rolled in and rolled out again just as fast...Maybe faster as we lost an hour to daylight savings time. Daylight savings like a thief in the night stealing our most precious thing: time to sleep in.
I hate the whole spring-forward thing as much as you can really hate something with the word spring in it.
One thing with spring just around the corner the sudden absence of snow can certainly make a mess of things. It can make a simple trip to the park an exercise in mudding, What you see here was only the parking lot.
Still it is hard to stay annoyed with the promise of  things to come hanging in the cool heavy humid air. Even when you have to hose your boots and the dog off.

Winters back with snow...again

This morning, there was hardly any snow to be found but a surprise storm stepped up and dropped 7 inches (so far) here in SE mi. Mixing with Sleet and generally making a mess of things here in MI.
The battery in the ATV decided to die on my right when I needed it (mental note if you jump start you ATV make sure is stays running lest you end up stalled out in the middle of the road)

Tanner, on the other had, found it to be a great diversion retrieving her "bird" from in and out of the snow covered brush making a 3D maze of winter fun for her to romp through.

Back to the river:

Back to the river:

It was a long weekend.
It was a short weekend

It was still light out
but we were in the season of cold and darkness.
We had everything to do
We had nothing to do

In short it was so far from the summer that I could only barely ignore my nosiest memories of warmer times.
For good or for evil, we have months more of winter left.

For a breif moment in time...

Our lawn is leaf free in November... after mulching and a quick touch up with the blower there is a breif moment where there are no leaves... but because the two giant maples still have a ton of leaves to shed, it wont stay this way for long.

It is a good day in the woods...

There is a magic few weeks when the lawn does not need to be mowed, and before the leaves all fall when the smells and colors at their peak when fall outshines every other season.
