Cool Gear: FIlson Tin Cloth Packer Coat

Somethings are so awesome that they almost defy description.

This is the case with Filson Tin Cloth Packer Coat.

With fall around the corner this jacket will keep you warm and Filson quality will mean this jacket will be around for years.

I have to be honest: I have a pair of Filson hunting pants and a hat and these two things I count on my very short list of prized possessions.

In a world of disposable items the quality of Filson is a refreshing breath of fresh air.

If you are interested you can find it *Here*.

Speaking of being sloppy: Why texting is dangerous

(Hint: it has nothing to do with driving.)

Despite my previous post, I guess typing is not the solution either. At least typing on a cell phone.

Today is a good example.

What I meant to text:

Hi Luv… can you call me

What I did text:

Ho Luv… can you call me.

I guess “Ho Luv” could bring up images of other things, thankfully she knew what I meant.

It goes the other way also, incoming texts :

Text from tenant:

“I have the sent check for you.”

Does that mean they have sent the rent check (what I thought)

-or-

They have the Rent check waiting for me (actually what they meant)

This one lead to some frustration as I was waiting for something that was never going to arrive and they did not know why I had not stopped by.

The stupid thing: I do this all the time:

Typed/meant to say

But the iPad / buy the iPad

See you spoon/ see you soon

That shop has a boner car / that shop as a loaner car

You get the idea…so much for typing being the solution.

I guess I just have to be a little more vigilant.

I had a million things to do today....but

I did manage to get some shop time in today. Here are two projects that my moms asked me to do for her. Behind these are about 50 other projects that I have backed up. It is fun to get back into the wood shop.

MGOBLUE: Michigan vs. Bowling Green

This is only the second meeting of the Wolverines and the falcons. With two schools only separated by 75 miles, I am sure there will be some falcon fans in the crowd hoping for the upset win over a 21st rated Michigan team.

The odds on favorite is MI, but last week proved that we must be on our toes and a win is not a guarantee. The Wolverines do have an impressive track record against MAC schools but that only makes it more clear: a loss here could be devastating. This should be a showcase game where all our weapons are brought out to get ahead early and put this one to bed.

The Robinson offensive yard train was slowed last week but not put off track. Expect this week to see Robinson get back to putting up jaw dropping numbers against the Falcons.

On this cool overcast morning with the sun just peaking through the clouds, fall has set foot in Ann Arbor bringing with it a craving for apples and cider and an excitement for this afternoons contest.

As you might have gleaned, I have a small fishing trip planned for next week.

As you might have gleaned, I have a small fishing trip planned for next week with a couple of old friends.

Not enough can be said about this trip as the we tend not to go fishing often and when we do we try and go big. * Next week we will be up in the Upper Peninsula, doing just that.

Today Paul D sent me this obvious photo shopped image simply titled "motivation" with our faces poorly wedged in the image.

This is not the first time, or the last I am afraid that photo shopped images appear on this blog. It takes telling fish stories to a different level don't you think?

* that link with the Muskie is an unaltered photo... for the record

here are a couple of more photo shops of my own:

How sloppy is my hand writing... and other ways I justify being lazy

How sloppy is my hand writing... and other ways I justify being lazy.

How lazy am I getting? Lately, when writing, I do not even finish my sentences, email addresses, and little notes I quickly write down... it kind of looks like this:

That, my friends, is supposed to be: guys_name@hotmail.com. As you can see the hotmail kind of trails off into nothing. I was telling myself it was because I am to busy. Or that I just need to type EVERYTHING (that might be what it may boil down to) but the truth is: I am just getting lazy in the handwriting department.

Or maybe I DO just need to type everything.
All I know is that is it not going to get any better, anytime soon.

Here is to being lazy.

MGOBLUE: Michigan vs. Notre Dame

This afternoon, in South Bend IN, the wolverines will be on the road to face the fighting Irish on their field.

Michigan still has a overall winning record with Notre Dame, but at there house its more of an even contest... in the best of years. (our record there is something like 8-8-1).

This year, we play them early in the schedule with both teams coming from a victory last week.

On this day, when the stakes could not be higher for either program, this rivalry will prove to be a contest where the winner will walk away with the knowledge that there program is going in the right direction, the other...well the other will be in a bad pace with an early loss casting a shadow over the rest of the season.

With two of the three winningest programs in college football HISTORY neither team will be happy with a loss here. This should prove to be spectacular contest.

Right now light rain is falling over the stadium and it is cool in South Bend. Its is foretasted to slow to a stop near game time as it appears mother nature herself seems to want to take a break from her duties to honor the contest and watch the game. It will be a great day for this meeting of the two titans.

I can only say that this will be no game like Connecticut last week. The Wolverines must play flawless no error football this Saturday AND step up to the challenge that only a great rivalry game like this can produce. This could be the catalyst game to start a great season for one of these teams.

GOBLUE.

****Update**** Wow what a game.

Overheard last night on the couch:

(disclaimer: Image is simulated stupidity)

The Girl: Isn’t it going to be cold when you go fishing next week?

Me: More than likely.

The Girl: You better take some warm clothes.

Me: Warm clothes? I don’t care if I freeze a ball right off…I am just worried about the water temperature and the feeding patterns of the fish.

The Girl (now laughing): A “ball” huh? You ARE stupid.

Me: Stupid like a fish!

Speaking of the shop...

I am always a loss for storage, and as organized as I like to be... clutter seems to be a battle I am always fighting.

The Girl was kind enough to drop this early bday present on me. This awesome rolling cabinet that seems to fit an awesome amount of stuff.

More storage AND a place to put my miter saws. Not to mention it made me clean up the shop.

Nice!

This short vacation ....

This short vacation is going fast. The Girl and I decided to stay home and relax... and get a few things done.
Today we had a conversation, not much is getting done. The Girl pointed out, that was the point. When she is right, she is right.
I did manage to get a few minutes of shop time in today and banged out these mini raised paneled doors for my mom... to replace some doors in a small cabinet in her upstairs bath that were needing replacing.

Looking back I guess I did get these doors started, put new knobs on the Girls dresser project ( a re-hab project she is working on), fixed the dishwasher that came off its mounting bracket, fixed a broken piece of trim on the dishwasher, replaced the faucet in the upstairs bath, built shelves for the lil girls apartment. We installed the same shelves (and various other things around her apartment.)
and probably a few other things not remembered right now.

Looking back, not really sure where the time to relax fit in :) . We still have Monday! HAPPY LABOR DAY EVERYONE!

It felt like fall today...

It felt like fall today... as the temperatures dropped lower than normal. It meant a return to the woods as the mosquitoes are held at bay with the lower temps and that means a return to our colder season stomping grounds.

Tanner seemed happy to be back in the woods as the sights and smells were familiar. The walking stick I left leaning against the tree at trail head was still there, just lying on the ground. So much summer gone, so little done...

MGOBLUE: Michigan vs. Connecticut

This morning, in Ann Arbor, the strong breeze is unusually cool and crisp and there is a buzz in the air as the Wolverines prepare for the first meeting of the 2010 season.

It is not an exaggeration to say that there is a lot riding on this years performance. With the last few years lackluster performance, a huge stadium renovation , and peoples jobs on the line... that adds up to a lot of pressure.

In the first meeting ever with Connecticut anything can happen. Unfortunately nothing but a win for Michigan will do for the hungry fans.

See you at 3:30... if not in Ann Arbor, ABC will be broadcasting the contest.

GOBLUE!

This afternoon , at the Park

This afternoon , at the Park. It was hot and storms were threatening. Tanner has been limping lately as she pulled a muscle in her excitement to get the tennis ball the other day. I have been making her take it a little easy lately. So far it seems to be working and today she was limping less and it think feeling better.

Now if I could only do something about the heat. If I could only get mother nature to take it easy for a while. This sunflower at the park does not seem to mind. Looks like the "photo" icon for the iPhone/Pad

Starting today I am taking a couple of days off. I was, however, in the the office this morning to wrap up a few things... and I ran across the perfect vacation accessory: The Hops Holster.

12 - 12 ounce cans of goodness strapped to your chest Rambo style... awesome.

I might just have to get one of these for the late season fishing trip we have planned.
