Vapor Life

Science is really cool and other reasons I justify my geekness.

You might not know what quantum trapping and super-conductors are but you should. Why? Because with that you can do stuff like this (see video) and if you cant see the video... then read more about them *here*.

Thanks to io9 for this one.

Best comment of the day:

"Am I the only one who gets absolutely frustrated that people are still proposing the possibility of time-travel?
This is why I can't party with my theoretical physicist friends anymore."

From a random slash dot thread about the Large Hadron Collider .

Astrology Is Still Bullshit and the Universe Doesn't Care About You (caution repost)

Best quote of the day:

"Put your hand on a hot stove for a minute, and it seems like an hour. Sit with a pretty girl for an hour, and it seems like a minute. That's relativity." -- Albert Einstein

Speaking of things we dont know...

Bees Solve Hard Computing Problems Faster Than Supercomputers.

Thanks to Gizmodo for humbling me again.

In a new study, researchers report that bumblebees were able to figure out the most efficient routes among several computer-controlled "flowers," quickly solving a complex problem that even stumps supercomputers.

From the "Like I did not have enought to worry about already" department

One of the biggest solar flares in months is exploding from the surface of our sun this week. It's right at the center of a roiling filament of magnetism. According to NASA, flares from sunspot 1112 haven't gotten big enough to be worrying.

-No offense I know those NASA guys are pretty smart but .... Large solar flares are not good in my book.

Thanks to io9 for reminding me we are at the mercy of so many things that are out of our control.

Speaking of space....

Like I don't have enough crap to worry about: now the Sun is freaking out.

Thanks to engadget for this one:

Coronal mass ejections (CMEs) are no laughing matter, but for quite some time now we've been livin' easy as the sun kept it cool. That changes tomorrow, when a massive CME will hit our atmosphere, flung asunder by that great CFL in the sky, which apparently spent much of yesterday throwing a giant, solar tantrum. Scientists are saying that human life will probably not be exterminated thanks to our atmosphere, but GPS and cellular reception could be a little finicky tomorrow. We can't wait to see the anti-sun attack ads from Apple.

Spaced out

Lately I have felt a little spaced out - to much to do and not enough time. Not to mention that I have not quite had time to adjust/move everything to the new laptop.

Tonight the NASA app provided some more images that continued to entertain and make me remember there are bigger things out there then what it going on in out little world.

Check out this Image of Saturn's rings.

2010-07-12:Moons Beyond the Rings of Saturn
http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap100712.html
What's happened to that moon of Saturn? Nothing -- Saturn's moon Rhea is just partly hidden behind Saturn's rings. In April, the robotic Cassini spacecraft now orbiting Saturn took this narrow-angle view looking across the Solar System's most famous rings. Rings visible in the foreground include the thin F ring on the outside and the much wider A and B rings just interior to it. Although it seems to be hovering over the rings, Saturn's moon Janus is actually far behind them. For credit and copyright guidance, please visit image webpage.

The reason I like Physics...

The reason I like Physics...Is that anything is possible.

I like to read up on string theory, and other main stream and not so main stream theories. Its kind of fun for me.

So the theory that the LHC (Large Hadron Collider),is a doomsday device had caught my eye. Many have predicted this project as mans undoing of itself with possible doomsday predictions that have been put forward about the particle collider and the planned experiments.

Delay after delay have plagued the project, however, and the theory that the collider is being sabotaged from the FUTURE... to prevent some sort of calamity? Awesome.

I wont spoil it all for you, you can read it *HERE*.

The best quote is this:

“For those of us who believe in physics,” Einstein once wrote to a friend, “this separation between past, present and future is only an illusion.”

I.
Love.
That.
