Woodshop: last minute projects.

Oh yeah that thing I was forgetting... that was the holidays.
Now its all a mad rush to get things done before the 25th so I might actually enjoy some of it.
That means last minute projects in the shop have to be done as well. Here we see some solid walnut pieces that will hopefully be something soon.
Very soon.

Bird Feeder Rescue

My mother has pension for bird feeders.
The Girls mother was tossing out this one out.

I guess I will have to re-hab this thing.

Who says I don't recycle enough.

PS- although it doesn't look it in this photo this thing is in pretty rough shape. What can I say I am a sucker for a lost cause.

Cool gear- bolefloor hardwood floors. Life is not a straight line.

If you like wood floors you might just love bolefloor's more natural take on the tradtional favorite.
Check the product out *here*.
Just don't get mad if you fall in love only to find that the product is not quite available yet (summer of 2011). Likely out of my price range anyway as craftsman ship like this cant be cheap. Still a guy can dream right?

Globe Stand Complete and more.

Did I get some things done this weekend? Sure I did.
Did I get what I wanted to done? Not even close.
I did manage to get the globe stand stained, sanded, and sealed.

The little project turned out pretty good.
I also did manage to knock out this little utility cars designed to to hold rakes/shovels and yard implements. This was actually an old oak trashcan that I put on renewed.refurbished for this purpose. Since this was a project that I had not started I was only able to build the handle from a similar red oak the grid the internal grid, and trim are are a softer wood that I am hoping will stain up as a nice contrast. Once all the glue is done drying I guess we shall see.

Shop time: The Globe Stand.

A long time ago, on a vacation the Girl and I bought this small inexpensive vintage looking globe in a small shop while on vacation.

It had no stand  but of course that could be fixed.

Several years later I realized I had yet to fix this. Since I did not have very much shop time today I decided to look past the other projects (some have been started some still just ideas) and knock this one out.

I had this oak disk sitting around so I found the center, divided into three 120 deg slices, and marked it all out.

I drew these arms out with a compass on a scrap piece of oak that matched the disk and paying attention to the way the grain ran...something I have been paying more attention to lately.
Morticed some square holes to accept them and viola!
There was a bit more measuring to get the distance of the thee arms right and into the correct position as to contact the globe just way that looked pleasing to me. It was a little tricky... the rest pretty much fell into place.

Sure its needs some sanding still and I have to glue, stain and seal but I am pretty happy with the result so far.

Shop Time: Shelving units.

I can never get enough done during these short weekends. That being said it nice to see a project that was completed and it out in the wild.

My nephews bookcase/desk combo came together nice and was installed on site in just a few minutes.

Shop Time: My Niece’s project Box.

It was a good weekend... I did some work at the rental, but little else of what I had planned but you know what that is alright.

I did get to spend some time in the shop and this is good because I have several projects backed up.

A couple of weeks ago I started this project box for my niece.
Here it is with the inner shelf I made for her to organize her supplies and what not.

I need a front latch, a little bit more sanding, then ready for finish.

I am beginning to like this simple box. Hope she likes it as well.

Brain overload...

Lately, my brain has been bursting with ideas.

I guess its back to the shop to wrap up some more projects before I can start new ones.

Oh and the girl wants me to make new kitchen cabinets.

I better go get started.

*update*

Tray imagined... tray actual.

Not quite done but I love to see thoughts come to life in solid walnut.

Speaking of the shop...

I am always a loss for storage, and as organized as I like to be... clutter seems to be a battle I am always fighting.

The Girl was kind enough to drop this early bday present on me. This awesome rolling cabinet that seems to fit an awesome amount of stuff.

More storage AND a place to put my miter saws. Not to mention it made me clean up the shop.

Nice!
